About Us

Squad Photo

The Under 9's age group trains every Sunday and plays competitive tag rugby against local clubs and enter a number of festivals and tournaments throughout the season. At this stage of competitive rugby, we aim to teach and develop the squad to play as a team, embrace the spirit of the game and most importantly have fun!

We train on a Sunday morning from 10:00 AM until 12 noon (unless we have a match !). During our training sessions we combine formal training techniques with games. The formal training focuses on the Speed, Agility and Quickness techniques used by the International squads and rugby skills development. We then use inter-squad games to reinforce the training, encourage team play and to introduce friendly competitive spirit - with naturally a chance for parents to then cheer on in support of their children.

We always welcome new squad members and are happy for your child to come along and give tag rugby a try! The squad members are representative of most of the schools in the area and it is likely your Year 3 child will already know somebody that plays.

If you are interested in coming along, or if you have any questions, please give the Team Manager Becci Higgins a call. Her details are below.

County Tournament - 2010

Andover under 8's, sponsored by Adept Power Solutions, were joint 5-5 winners with Havant at the County Tournament hosted by Winchester. The road to the final was closely fought in both the 1/4 final against Fordingbridge and the semi final against Romsey. Sterling defence play resulted in turn over balls ensuring Andover were always one step ahead when the crucial final whistle went. The boys were fantastic in attack displaying excellent ball handling skills, space awareness and always ready for that pass that often came before they were tagged. They listened well to the coaches on the pitch and successfully transferred the skills they'd learnt in training to full effect in the match situation. They gelled well as a team and truly unselfish play made for a great day of rugby, you really got the impression that the trys scored by an individual black shirt were scored for the All Black Team. A special thanks to the Dad's who helped the Mum's run the team on Mother's day!
