We train on a Sunday morning, normally at the club at various times starting between 10.00 & 12.00pm depending on space at the club (unless we have a match!) training usually is a two hour session. We also have a joint midweek training session on a Thursday evening at the club with the Under 15's starting at 6.30pm and ending at 8pm. On matchdays kick-off will normally be between 11.00am or 12.00pm, with the matchday squad to arrive one hour prior to KO.
Players / parents should look out for messages from the coaches / manager via email and the Facebook page regarding training times.
We play Hampshire League games about once per month and also arrange ‘friendly’ matches with local squads both in Hampshire and other Counties throughout the season.
Details of fixtures are available on the fixture tab on the club website.
At this stage of competitive rugby, we aim to develop individual and team play, embrace the spirit of the game, compete to the best of our ability and yet retain the fun side of rugby at the same time. Match experience for all is also a priority.
At Under 16's we play full Youth Rugby 15-a-side with 8 forwards and 7 backs. We introduce lifting in the lineout for the first season and we have scrums, ruck and mauls, kicking and full contact tackling, all of which are coached by a set of RFU qualified coaches in accordance with the RFU continuum.
We always welcome new squad members and are happy for you to come along and give rugby a try! The squad members are representative of most of the local schools in the area and it is likely your Year 11 son will already know somebody that plays in the squad.
Several members of our squad have been successful in being selected for the Hampshire Schools of Rugby and some have also gone through the Hampshire County trials process and now represent Hampshire.
If you are interested in coming along, then please just turn up at training and introduce yourself.
You would need appropriate rugby kit (shorts and a top) to train in, plus boots and a gumshield.
Club apparel if you wish to purchase it is available from the clubhouse and second hand kit is also available from the "shed" at very reasonable prices.
Alternatively, if you have any questions, please give our Team Manager or one of the coaches a call. Their contact details are below.
Andover 25 – Vectis 14
The forecast for Sunday’s league match between Andover and Vectis may have been dull and wet, in reality, the amassed home supporters were treated to a polished performance by two well-matched top of the table teams. Stepping out onto the Goodship to put the record straight, the Woodstock Heating & Plumbing sponsored U16's started brightly and intelligent kicking pinned the away side back in their own half. A well-rehearsed catch and drive, led by the ever-aerial Ward, resulted in Griffiths diving over for the opening score. Andover spent the following 20 minutes deep in Vectis territory, but failing to convert pressure into points, a smart interception from the Vectis back line led to a length of the pitch try. The subsequent conversion created a score line of 5-7 in favour of the visitors, however a late first half penalty ensured Andover went into the interval leading by 1 point thanks to the boot of Sarginson.
The Woodstock plumbing supplies sponsored u16s hosted Winchester in an eagerly awaited league match on Sunday ,
Both teams were missing players and so some reshuffling was required for both teams, Andover started brightly and dominated the early exchanges and scored when Jamie Sarginson crossed the line and also added the conversion to give the home side a 7-0 lead, this seemed to spark Winchester into life and they began to gain a foothold in the match which Andover struggled to contain at times, when Andover did get possession they were guilty of trying to force passes and offloads that should have been kept in hand, this allowed Winchester plenty of possession and territory which was only stopped by good Andover defence
Andover U16s sponsored by Woodstock Plumbing Supplies travelled to Ellingham & Ringwood to try and bounce back from the previous weekends disappointment.
Andover started at full speed and looked determined from the outset and were soon rewarded when skipper George Lishman scored out wide after 5 minutes, Doug Armes added to this shortly afterwards to give Andover a 0-10 lead. The visitors were in their stride now and dominated the set piece and were able to attack constantly and with Louie Smith adding to the total Andover were 15 points up with as many minutes played. The backs who were enjoying plenty of good possession provided from excellent forwards play then scored the try of the match with the ball going wide and when Matuesz Palmer was held short of the line he was able to offload to the supporting Harvey Newton who scored in the corner. George Ward then scored from broken play and Sam Hamilton Scored 2 trys in quick succession to give Andover a half time lead of 0-35.
Andover U16s sponsored by Woodstock Plumbing Supplies got there league campaign off to the toughest task travelling away to current league champions Vectis.
Andover started brightly and applied some early pressure but couldn’t get any momentum as too many penalties were conceded, this led to the home side taking a 3-0 lead after 10 minutes, Andover dominated the set piece however more penalties against restricted any flow to the visitors play,
Andover u15s hosted Trojans this weekend in their last league game of the season.
Andover started brightly and soon had the visitors deep in their own half and the home side were rewarded after 5 minutes when awarded a penalty which Michael Cooke slotted to give Andover a narrow lead, unfortunately Andover then lost centre Doug Armes due to a broken nose and whilst they rearranged their back line the visitors managed to put several phases of good play together, however solid Andover defence stopped them from scoring, Another penalty kick was added by Cooke but then on the stroke of half time Andover gave away a penalty in front of the posts which led to a 6-3 halftime score.
