PLAY HARD - PLAY WELL - PLAY FAIR

About Us

The Squad Photo

We train on a Sunday morning, normally at the club at various times starting between 10.00 & 12.00pm depending on space at the club (unless we have a match!) training usually is a two hour session. We also have a joint midweek training session on a Thursday evening at the club with the Under 15's starting at 6.30pm and ending at 8pm. On matchdays kick-off will normally be between 11.00am or 12.00pm, with the matchday squad to arrive one hour prior to KO.

Players / parents should look out for messages from the coaches / manager via email and the Facebook page regarding training times.

We play Hampshire League games about once per month and also arrange ‘friendly’ matches with local squads both in Hampshire and other Counties throughout the season.

Details of fixtures are available on the fixture tab on the club website.

At this stage of competitive rugby, we aim to develop individual and team play, embrace the spirit of the game, compete to the best of our ability and yet retain the fun side of rugby at the same time. Match experience for all is also a priority.

At Under 16's we play full Youth Rugby 15-a-side with 8 forwards and 7 backs. We introduce lifting in the lineout for the first season and we have scrums, ruck and mauls, kicking and full contact tackling, all of which are coached by a set of RFU qualified coaches in accordance with the RFU continuum.

We always welcome new squad members and are happy for you to come along and give rugby a try! The squad members are representative of most of the local schools in the area and it is likely your Year 11 son will already know somebody that plays in the squad.

Several members of our squad have been successful in being selected for the Hampshire Schools of Rugby and some have also gone through the Hampshire County trials process and now represent Hampshire.

If you are interested in coming along, then please just turn up at training and introduce yourself.

You would need appropriate rugby kit (shorts and a top) to train in, plus boots and a gumshield.

Club apparel if you wish to purchase it is available from the clubhouse and second hand kit is also available from the "shed" at very reasonable prices.

Alternatively, if you have any questions, please give our Team Manager or one of the coaches a call. Their contact details are below.

U13 v Basingstoke - 13/03/2016

"The Adept Power Solutions sponsored Andover U13's welcomed Basingstoke on Sunday 13th March, to the Goodship ground, for the Hampshire County Plate final. A strong start by the team saw some dominant play by the forwards, winning good quick ball in the loose, and allowing the backs the time and space to move the ball out to their wingers Leo Lee and Louis Pereira who were able to test the Basingstoke defences out wide. Some good covering defence by Basingstoke restricted the scoring opportunities, however they could not stem the tide for long and Leo Lee soon went over in the corner. Another backs move involving Sam Harding breaking into the line from full back, soon brought Andovers second try.

U13 v Gosport & Farnham - 24/01/2016

U13's reach County Plate Final in style

The Adept Power Solutions sponsored Andover RFC U13's welcomed Gosport and Fareham to  the Goodship Ground for the Hampshire County Plate semi final. Having had a stiff run out against Newbury last weekend, the players were sharper and more match fit than they had been for a while. They started strongly, putting G&F under pressure from the kick off, won the ball back, and moved the ball wide to score in the corner after only a minute or so of play. This was quickly followed up by a second try, after some great work by the pack to outmuscle their opponents and set up the backs again.

U13 v Eastleigh - 15/11/2015

The Adept Power Solutions sponsored Andover RFC U13's began the defence of their Hampshire county title in style, with an emphatic 90 - 0 win over Eastleigh, in the first round of this years cup competition. This was the first competitive match for the squad outside of previous years mini tournaments, and they took to the new format and pitch size like they had been playing at this level for years. Despite previous slow starts to recent friendly matches, the team got off to a flying start with a try almost from the kick off. Putting pressure on Eastleigh from the kick, they quickly won the ball back and fast second phase possession allowed Andover to break through the defence for the first try. The rest of the first half continued in the same vein, with some great forward play, and slick handling by the backs, allowing them to run in a number of tries from all areas of the pitch. Andover started to make a number of changes to the team. However it made no difference to the style of play, and resulting tries. This was an opportunity for players to take their chances, and they did. The replacements who came on, all made a positive impact. Despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise, Andover did not have it all their own way, and all credit must go to  Eastleigh, for never giving up, and trying to the end. Their heads never dropped, and toward the end of the second half started to put Andover under some pressure. However, Andover responded well, with some fierce tackling, and managed to turn the ball over, to break away and score their last try of the game. All players should be proud of what they achieved yesterday, and take confidence in their ability into the next round.

U12 County Tournament - 08/03/2015

The Adept Power Solutions sponsored Andover U12’s travelled to the annual Hampshire County Championship at Petersfield to compete against 21 other teams, all hoping to win the title of County Champions. Their first two pool games included a comfortable 6-0 win against Trojans, and a 5-1 win against Gosport and Fareham, before facing their nemesis side, New Milton. A good start saw Andover take a 2 try lead, with powerful forward play from Mikey Summerfield, Ben Compton and Elliott Byrne, outstanding link play by Louis Pereira and James Hayes, complemented by strong running from backs Sam Harding and Bruno Matley.  The second half saw New Milton show why they are always difficult to beat, as they began to move the ball wide and probe the Andover defence. As much as Andover tackled and fought, New Milton eventually pulled one back and then snatched another to make it 2-2. Andover managed one last huge effort to defend their line, with Tom Edmunds sweeping up at fullback, heroically keeping their opponents at bay to leave the final score level, a result that proved critical. Andover’s next game was against Fordingbridge where they knew that they had to win by at least 6 tries to knock out New Milton, and go through to the cup competition. Fresh legs started this game in the shape of backs, Harry Salmon, Henry Smith and Seb Norris, who all made a positive impact alongside the powerful free running of forwards Lee Wilson, Jack Mackenzie and Harrison Walls. They came away as 7-0 winners, showing just how good the depth of talent is in this squad.

U12 Winchester Tournament - 16/11/2014

The Adept Power Supplies sponsored Andover U12’s, took a squad to Winchester on Sunday, for their annual Emerging Player Tournament. They were drawn in a strong pool with 3 other clubs, Trojans, Fareham Heathens and Havant. The teams first game was against a strong and very well drilled Trojans side. Although Andover were committed and determined, the rucking of the Trojans team proved too strong and with the majority of clean ball, Trojans ran out 3-1 winners. Andover learnt that they had to be more physical and direct at the breakdowns, and to move the ball through the hands in the backs to exploit the space given by the wide pitch. They managed to put those lessons to good use in their next game against Fareham Heathens. Great work by the forwards, produced consistently good ball for the backs, who had learnt that the ball moves quicker than they can, and started to move the ball to the wings. They ran out 3-1 winners, and looked comfortable throughout. The confidence gained from this win, they took into the next against a strong and physical Havant side. Andover conceded a try early on, however didn’t let their heads drop, and replied quickly to level the score. They then began to dominate every area of the game, Havant finding it hard to get their hands on the ball. The forwards were more physical than Havant, and produced enough possession to allow the backs to run in another 4 tries. Havant managed to get a late try to end the scoring with a 5-2 win to Andover. This resulted in them coming second in their pool, and facing Winchester in the 2nd place teams play off. Winchester were strong, being quicker to the breakdown and offloading and recycling the ball better than Andover. The players gave everything, the tackling was superb, and they never gave up. Despite going 2-0 down, they responded with a superb team try, however Winchester managed to break away again and make the final score 3-1. This result left them 4th out of the 9 teams who attended. A fantastic overall result
