The Under 12's age group trains every Sunday and gives the players their first taste of contact rugby. At this stage of competitive rugby we aim to teach and develop the squad to play as a team, embrace the spirit of the game and most importantly have fun! We are playing to the new transitional rugby rules where the emphasis is on attacking space, offloading in contact and rewarding good defence with a fixed tackle count and turn over.
We play against local clubs and enter a number of festivals and tournaments throughout the season. We train on a Sunday morning from 10:00 AM until 12 noon (unless we have a match !). During our training sessions we combine structured drills with game based exercises. The structured drills focus on passing and tackling and techniques while game based exercises are aimed at improving reaction, decision making and team work.
We encourage team play and to a friendly competitive spirit - with naturally a chance for parents to then cheer on in support of their children.
We always welcome new squad members and are happy for your child to come along and give rugby a try! The squad members are representative of most of the schools in the area and it is likely your Year 6 child will already know somebody that plays.
If you are interested in coming along, or if you have any questions, please give the Team Manager a call. Details are below.
It was a lovely day for the Salisbury Mini Rugby Festival with the sun coming through from time to time.
Andover's pool had Wimborne, Winchester, Bournemouth, Blandford and Salisbury.
In our first competitive match we looked rusty against a useful Wimborne side, however, the boys slowly began to improve in their subsequent matches and were much better supporting the ruck, quicker passing and crossing the try line on three occasions.
Andover Primary Schools Rugby Festival, Friday 1st May,
Andover Rugby Club, will again host the Primary Schools Rugby Festival on Friday 1st May. An enjoyable Tag tournament that is an ideal opportunity for those in all involved year groups to have look and a chat if interested in becoming more involved in the game of rugby.
The Andover U9's played in their last tournament of the season at Havant on Sunday.
In the pool matches the boys started well with a win against United Services and drawing against Alton, before losing the final game to a strong Havant team. As a result we came third in pool on points difference, putting us into the Bowl.
