Andover RFC Under 11’s welcomes children that are in school year 6 (born 2005-06). The game-play continues to coach & develop ball skills of passing, receiving and moving with the ball, but also inclusive player movement without the ball to support. The U10’s season builds upon, and consolidates on the previous seasons learning and experience of the introduction of contact (tackling & being tackled), with the U10 year seeing the introduction of rucking and mini-mauls. In this age group and consistent with the New Rules of Play (NRoP) for age appropriate rugby, the ruck and maul situations are conditioned to ensure learning and development meets every players’ needs, and of course that it is safe.
As players move through the age phases and team play becomes more important, equal attention is given to defensive play as it is to attacking. Much of the practice and training is based upon Game sense and small-sided games, which permits for more player-centered learning and development and creative play.
As with all other ARFC age groups, we play in festivals at many other clubs during the course of the season, and also train as guests at other clubs in the south and also host visiting clubs to train at Andover.
The team manager is Team Manager, who handles all the admin (and there is plenty of that!) provides the point-of-contact for players, parents and officials at training and on match days, whilst liaising through ARFC with clubs on many aspects including fixtures.
These people are all volunteers, noting that; ‘Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.’
Then also, Andover RFC U10’s share the resources and personnel of coaches and players from within the club, and also development staff from The RFU to enrich coaching and learning.
The age group training is scheduled for Sunday mornings (10.00am-12.00midday) during the season, and all are welcome to come along, have a look at what goes on and/or join in! (please consult ARFC website for news update and fixtures)
It was a lovely day for the Salisbury Mini Rugby Festival with the sun coming through from time to time.
Andover's pool had Wimborne, Winchester, Bournemouth, Blandford and Salisbury.
In our first competitive match we looked rusty against a useful Wimborne side, however, the boys slowly began to improve in their subsequent matches and were much better supporting the ruck, quicker passing and crossing the try line on three occasions.
Andover Primary Schools Rugby Festival, Friday 1st May,
Andover Rugby Club, will again host the Primary Schools Rugby Festival on Friday 1st May. An enjoyable Tag tournament that is an ideal opportunity for those in all involved year groups to have look and a chat if interested in becoming more involved in the game of rugby.
The Andover U9's played in their last tournament of the season at Havant on Sunday.
In the pool matches the boys started well with a win against United Services and drawing against Alton, before losing the final game to a strong Havant team. As a result we came third in pool on points difference, putting us into the Bowl.
