PLAY HARD - PLAY WELL - PLAY FAIR

About Us

Digger

Andover RFC Under 11’s welcomes children that are in school year 6 (born 2005-06). The game-play continues to coach & develop ball skills of passing, receiving and moving with the ball, but also inclusive player movement without the ball to support. The U10’s season builds upon, and consolidates on the previous seasons learning and experience of the introduction of contact (tackling & being tackled), with the U10 year seeing the introduction of rucking and mini-mauls. In this age group and consistent with the New Rules of Play (NRoP) for age appropriate rugby, the ruck and maul situations are conditioned to ensure learning and development meets every players’ needs, and of course that it is safe.

As players move through the age phases and team play becomes more important, equal attention is given to defensive play as it is to attacking. Much of the practice and training is based upon Game sense and small-sided games, which permits for more player-centered learning and development and creative play.

As with all other ARFC age groups, we play in festivals at many other clubs during the course of the season, and also train as guests at other clubs in the south and also host visiting clubs to train at Andover.

The team manager is Team Manager, who handles all the admin (and there is plenty of that!) provides the point-of-contact for players, parents and officials at training and on match days, whilst liaising through ARFC with clubs on many aspects including fixtures.

These people are all volunteers, noting that; ‘Volunteers are not paid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless.’

Then also, Andover RFC U11’s share the resources and personnel of coaches and players from within the club, and also development staff from The RFU to enrich coaching and learning.

The age group training is scheduled for Sunday mornings (10.00am-12.00midday) during the season, and all are welcome to come along, have a look at what goes on and/or join in! (please consult ARFC website for news update and fixtures)

U7 Havant Tournament - 19/04/2015

Andover Under 7’s put in another solid Tournament performance at Havant this weekend, with the A J Wilson Joinery sponsored squad narrowly missing out on the top spot to finish the day as Cup Runners–Up.

Fielding two 6 man teams ("Lions" & "Tigers"), both Andover sides carved their way through the pool games entirely undefeated.

Sebastian Slater hoovered up loose ball and, with the pace of Shane Hull and uncompromising lines run by Oliver Lishman, the Andover Lions secured good wins against Alton & Portsmouth. Hosts Havant also struggled with the intelligent starting plays by George Kelly who was ably supported by the Lewis Figures’ ability to find the try line out wide, whilst the pro-active defensive work by Bertie Michael was an utter delight to watch.

U7 - Winchester Tournament - 29/03/2015

Undaunted by some of the wettest and windiest conditions this season, Andover RFC Under 7s braved the elements to compete at Winchester "A" festival this weekend. The A J Wilson Joinery sponsored Andover side joined 9 other highly competitive squads from as far afield as Jersey.

The first match of the day, against a strong Petersfield team, was played at ferocious speed and proved one of the highest scoring at the festival. Despite running in a total of 17 tries - including fine efforts from Cassius Mitchell and Sam West - Andover narrowly lost both matches 8-9 and 9-10.

Next up were Jersey; having flown over the previous day specifically for this festival. Despite great tries from Luke Head and valiant defensive work from Cian Killick, both Andover teams again suffered narrow losses.

U7 - County Tournament - 22/03/2015

Andover under 7’s played their best rugby of the season in this Annual Hampshire Tournament with a consistently high standard of play exhibited throughout the entire day.

The A J Wilson Joinery sponsored Andover side fielded two 6 man squads against some of Hampshire’s finest clubs, with an aggregated scoring system which made the last day of the 6 Nations look like a 2+2 exercise…………..

Collectively both teams played 12 games, winning all but two matches, indeed one squad had reason to be especially proud with 6 outright wins.

The initial pool game against Fordingbridge saw an emphatic win for both teams, followed by some fine running rugby against Trojans in the warmest and driest conditions so far this season. A subsequent win against Gosport & Fareham with some fine tries by Oliver Waugh & Barney Bentley saw Andover well placed in the pool. Their final pool match against New Milton resulted in mixed fortunes despite some superb defensive work by Jack Shave & Bertie Michael.
