The Adept Power Solutions sponsored Andover RFC U13's travelled to New Milton for their first ever 7's tournament, with 11 players, many of whom had never previously played this format of the game. The tournament was reduced to a round robin league of 6 clubs, with each team playing all 5 other teams. The opposition was strong, with 2 teams from current county champions Tottonians, and hosts, and Andovers frequent bogey team over the years, New Milton.
Any questions over how the team would perform, were quickly answered with three powerful opening games against Bournemouth, Tottonians 1 and Milbrook, winning 9-1, 11-0 and 11-0 respectively. New Milton was a more testing match, with Andover eventually coming out 5-4 winners. The final game against Tottonians 2, after a stuttering start, and 1-1 after a few minutes, quickly became one way traffic, with Andover scoring almost at will, to record an easy 8-1 win, and top the league to claim the overall cup.
This was a true squad performance, with all squad players playing at least half a game in every match, and incredibly, every squad member scoring a try during the tournament! It was almost exhibition rugby at times, with the ball being moved out to both wings with speed and accuracy, and superb support and offloading to create the overlaps and additional space to score. Over the 5 games Andover scored 44 tries and conceded only 6. An Andover try every 1 minute 20 seconds of play!!
A great start to the 7's season.
Squad: Ben Compton, Ryan Corney, Tom Edmunds, Sam Harding, Leo Lee, Jack Mackenzie, Bruno Matley, Seb Norris, Louis Pereira, Harrison Walls, Joe Western.
