Warminster Festival March 27th 2011
The Lainston House and GB Medical sponsored Andover Under 11’s travelled on the first day of summer to Warminster RFC to compete in their annual tournament. The weather was chilly to start but soon warmed up so the supporters were happy.
This year the organisers had only 5 teams entered in the under 11 age group and decided to run the festival as a league with the top team taking away the cup.
First up were AvonVale and the Andover boys started well with some good tackling and defensive play and Andover had soon scored 2 tries. Unfortunately some loose passing bought about a breakaway try for AvonVale and the game was on. Just before the whistle blew JD scored a fantastic try and the game ended three tries to one.
Next up were Ivel Barbarians and some good straight running and quick passing meant that Andover won 4 tries to nil. A great individual try from Benjy Parrott finished the game. The next team to face Andover was Dorchester and this was a real battle both up front and in the backs with some good running and defensive play. This match finished in a nil nil draw.
So to the final match, against North Dorset and this was the decider as to who would top the league. The boys knew that the opposition were a big strong team but they were not fazed and played some stunning rugby, which resulted in a four tries to nil victory. Fantastic team play along with some good running and cracking tackles meant that Andover had won the league. Well done to all the boys.
