On a cold but bright Sunday morning the Lainston House and GB Medical sponsored Andover Under 11’s travelled to Portsmouth RFC to participate in the annual county tournament.
The first game was against a strong United Services squad who were experts at defending their line even under immense pressure from Andover. Inia Rawara scored the only try of the game to get the boys off to a great winning start.
Next up was Fordingbridge who scored an early try but with some good straight running Harrision Pape equalised and the match ended one try all. Then came the home team Portsmouth but Andover were on a roll and using the back line well the boys ran in 3 tries.
The last pool game was against a strong Farnborough side but again the Andover boys played as a team and Inia scored the winning try. This meant that Andover topped the pool with three wins and a draw and they were through to the cup semi finals.
The semi final was against a rampant Trojans team who had won all their pool game by three or four tries, so the Andover boys knew it would be a tough game. Unfortunately they let in a early try and were always playing catch up. Although throughout the game there was some good running and defensive tackling the result was a one try to nil loss. On the whole a great day finishing in the top four out of 19 teams and the boys played each game as though it was the last.
Player of the day trophy went to the front five and Joseph Joy who made some cracking tackles and was really focused all day. Well done to the whole squad for a fantastic day of rugby.
