On the 20 June around 20 - 30 young players and parents from Andover RFC pulled their pants on ‘super hero’ style and joined together with other local people for the third ‘Pants in the Park’ 5k fun run.
The annual event, organised in partnership with Simplyhealth, for Prostate UK, encourages people to come together to raise funds and generate awareness for Prostate UK, the only charity working to fight all prostate diseases.
This year’s event boasted another good attendance, with over 200 men, women and children descending on Charlton Athletic track on the outskirts of the town in their wacky, weird and wonderful pants including a team from Andover RFC. Amanda McLean, Chief Executive, Prostate UK says; “The turn out at the Andover event was phenomenal, it was a fun-filled family day, which raised vital funds for the charity. One in two men will suffer from prostate disease at some stage in their lives and this is one of the many ways we try and raise funds and awareness to stop prostate disease ruining lives in the UK.”
In addition to the support of the Andover rugby players and parents, Guinness premiership side London Irish sent over their club mascot ‘Digger’ who joined in with the runners during the warm up prior to the official start.
Andover RFC spokesman, Dickie Staff said afterwards: ‘Simplyhealth has been the principal sponsor of our Youth Academy for the past five years. They have provided considerable support over the years and we wanted to show our appreciation by giving something back and helping to raise money for a worthwhile cause at the same time. It was a great event and was good rugby fitness training in advance of the new season in September!”
