Wimborne Colts 33 – Andover Colts 0
The Andover squad were expecting a Sunday lunchtime run out on the training paddock but this re-arranged friendly offered the sternest of tests. With the light breeze drifting across Leigh Park direct from the Kremlin, Wimborne were not about to offer Andover an easy ride. The opening half was attritional with Basepoint Business Centre sponsored Andover enjoying some territory but they were generally in defensive mode. Wimborne finally broke the deadlock with a 60m sprint to the line to score the first try of the match. Andover finished the half strongly camped on the Wimborne line but could not find the weakness in the defence to score.
If Wimborne left the door slightly ajar in the first half in the second, with some personnel changes, they slammed it firmly in Andover’s face. Other than some kicks into the hosts 22 most of the game was played in Andover’s half. The defence was passionate from the visitors but Wimborne are a strong physical side and they cruised to victory with four second half tries.
Not a happy hunting ground for Andover who shipped 53 points on their last visit but all credit Wimborne who were superior on the day.
