Andover Colts 36 – Millbrook Colts 17
A friendly fixture against a Millbrook development squad enabled some of the Andover Colts to gain valuable game time. On a cold but still day the effects of the curry night were evident as Basepoint Business Centres sponsored Andover struggled to find much in the way of cohesion in the first half. The deadlock was eventually broken when Nick Baughen had just enough momentum to get over the line and score. The scrappy nature of Andover’s play continued, Millbrook were rewarded for their efforts with a well worked break away try to level the scores. It took a moment of inspiration and individual flair from Ioan Gwynne-Davies for Andover to regain the lead with a second try which he duly converted to take a seven point lead at the break.
The home sides’ heads were still not totally focused as Millbrook came out strongly in the second half and they were soon level with their second try and subsequent conversion. Andover finally woke up and found some structure to their play scoring through Jack Potter and then Roland Jones as the visitors went down to 14 for a ten minute period. Ryan Doyle added a fifth try before the ever determined Millbrook side, restored to 15 players, scored their third try. Ben Reed sealed the match with a try in the closing minutes to give the home side a comfortable winning margin.
Valuable experience for the Andover squad and great promise from the developing Millbrook team.
