Tottonians Colts 34 – Andover Colts 15
After sustained early season league success Oakwood sponsored Andover colts were up against much tougher opposition in the form of Tottonians Colts in this friendly fixture. The visitors took an early lead when Ioan Gwynne-Davies scrambled over to score in the corner following a flowing move by the backs. Andover were resolute in defence as they tackled hard but were caught offside presenting the opposition with a penalty in front of the posts which was duly kicked. Andover won a penalty of their own which Gwynne-Davies glided between the posts. Tottonians eventually crossed the Andover line for a try when their powerful backs worked the ball and cut through the Andover defence, the extra points were added with a superb conversion from the touchline. A fine kick and catch orchestrated by Tottonians 10 extended the lead with another try on the stroke of half time.
In the second period Andover came out the stronger and a charge down by JJ Thomas from a clearance kick behind the Tottonians line, presented an early Christmas present for Jack Moffat who duly fell on the ball to score the try. Despite Andover's best endeavours the Tottonian back line, well marshalled and directed by their fly half, with incisive runs from their winger, eventually made Andover pay for giving away one too many penalties and they ran in two more scores to give a slightly flattering victory margin at the final whistle as Andover’s legs tired.
Andover demonstrated great commitment and endeavour against a side a league above them but unfortunately on this occasion it wasn't quite enough to defeat an accomplished Tottonians side. A hard fought match played in the spirit of the game.
