Last Saturday Danny Gillan’s Andover 3rd’s travel to Tottonians to play what on paper was the hardest game of the season.

Totts first team are flying high in London division one and their thirds have been all conquering in recent times but Andover, led by Bert Baxter for the day are no mugs themselves, having been promoted last season and used to winning.

Bolstered by Stu Macrae and Chris Reilly from the vets and with Dom Trett and stalwart Ben Maloney returning from injury in the centre, Andover boasted a very experienced set of backs and soon went hard at the hosts.

Andover dominated from the off up front and from scrum against the head Andover soon went ahead as Trett punched through the home defence to score a lovely try.

Andover continued to dominate and then after only a few minutes Trett broke the line once again to score his second try with Chris Reilly adding the extras.

From the restart Chris Lewis smashed into the opposition off loading to Andy Dawkins in support who fed MacRae to score a lovely try.

Totts tried to come back but the Andover defence held firm and as Andover relieved the pressure Dawkins smashed over from a short scrum with Reilly converting.

24 nil up Andover relaxed but soon got reminded by Totts that they were a good side and only sound defence kept the home side out until half time.

In the second half Andover continued to dominate but were wasteful, until from a Wayne Jones lineout catch  Ben Spragg crashed over for what turned out to be the final score of the game.

Andover controlled the game and at no side got the biggest compliment of all when Totts players couldn’t belive they were not Andover second team.

After the game manager Gillan was unable to name a man of the match due to the commitment and effort put in by every single man on the pitch. He also commented congratulating them all on an outstanding TEAM performance and a great start to the season.
