Eastleigh 10 - 31 Andover

Jody Morgan’s Andover Hinds travelled to a tough Eastleigh outfit last Saturday knowing a win would see them leap frog their hosts as the highest level 8 second team in the league.

Andover again started slowly until first team player coach Sam Froggett, standing in for Patrick Holmes at outside centre, made a break to suddenly stir Andover into life.

This gave Andover the belief they needed and within minutes it was Froggett who again made a break before feeding Stefan Long in support who in turn put Kieran Jenvey in for a lovely try converted by Johnny Rogers.

The next 20 minutes were all Andover and as the pressure told, so did the experience of Froggett once again, as his wide pass was gobbled up by Long for his first try.

Eastleigh now sensing defeat was on the cards, stepped up a gear and it was Andover playing the defensive game. Andover old boy Rob Sutherland put in a big hit on Tim Smith who left the field injured but as Eastleigh tried to take advantage of the disruption but Andover held firm.

Having weathered the storm Long was soon at it again completing his brace with another splendid finish.

The second half started with Eastleigh very keen to get back into the game and as Andover watched in disbelief they crossed the line to put points on the board.

Stung by their own casual start Andover hit straight back and from a short scrum Skipper Craig Allen and his front row colleagues heaved, leaving Morgan with the simplest of finishes from the pushover converted by Rogers.

Eastleigh refused to give up and soon looked dangerous again as they scooped their second try to get back into it.

Any hope of a recovery however was finally snuffed out as man of the match Ratu Vee, flew down his wing to grab Andover’s fifth and final try and with the conversion by Rogers the contest was finally over.
