Andover enjoyed a really positive end to a solid pre season for the first team squad last Saturday, with a 41-33 win over Swanage and Wareham.

The visitors are a level above Andover in the South West division, but after a poor first half Andover ran in six tries to one in the second, to take the honours with Johnny Rogers grabbing a hat trick, Ioan Gwynne Davies a brace and single scores from Nic Reed and Hartbury student Stanley North on his first team debut.

Director of Rugby Andy Waite said ' A big plus for the club is the amount of new young players we have been able to blood over the summer, with the likes of Jack Potter, Alex Arter, Josh Middleton, Callum Farr, JJ Thomas, Callum Smith and North all stepping from the academy to join Gwynne Davies and Fin Waite who made the step last year.'

'We've also added Evan Roll who has really impressed after returning from university and Army players, Lloyd Richards and Nick Richardson.

Jake Kane and Luke Linssner have both sadly left due to relocation.'

' Its an exciting time with a new senior coaching team in Ross Newton and Tel Watkins and a vibrant group of players who really want to progress. We are also aware though that we are in a tough league where the standard seems to rise every year and we need to hit the ground running.'

League games start this coming Saturday with firsts away to a fancied Farnham outfit and seconds home to Gosport and Fareham, both games kick off at 3.00.
